a creature so divine
it solidifies the moon’s ripples
from the dark sand.

And if this tiny castle’s walls
are shucked, are breached,
a single pulsing heartbeat

pulls and rolls on;
a tide that moves
its own planetary gravity.

  1. Wow. I never thought I would think of oysters as anything more than insignificant animals for food, but your poem has just blown my mind. I love that you can make something so seemingly small into something so much bigger.

    1. Hahaha thanks! I’m actually helping with research on oysters now, so I felt that I owed the animals something after dissecting and injecting so many with parasites…
