It starts with red red leaves
bowing above my head
unlike the banana curls
done shivering at my feet.
Your promise stretches across the sky
with wings of down lit
like gauze for the blue,
you say have it all
because I’ll never belong
to anyone
you can hold it all
because that is all I am.
Let them have what they want
Your crickets still sing
Your birds still fly
and cry and chat and go away
Have it all
because you won’t cry
when the kneeling falls to
a long form in the ground
And for every red red leave
that never turned away
Your wings pass overhead
gauze. glue. and single blade
they’ll still reach for you,
green points let out
from the ground
